Getting Started

paperworkAt Cross Keys Physical Therapy Sports Medicine Center our policy is to see all new patients within 24-48 hours of making an appointment. For some patients, many appointments are available on the same day.

This policy ensures that your needs are addressed immediately, so you can feel better, faster.

What to bring to your first visit at Cross Keys Physical Therapy:

  1. Insurance card
  2. Prescription
  3. Referral (if necessary)
  4. Forms

How to prepare for your first visit:

  1. Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.
  2. Arrive at your appointment 5-10 minutes early with your forms already filled out.
  3. Arrive for your appointment 45 minutes early if no forms have been filled out.

What to expect on your first visit to Cross Keys:

  1. You will be greeted by our helpful receptionist who may verify some of your information.
  2. Next, you will be interviewed by a physical therapist to review your medical history and symptoms.
    • What types of symptoms are you experiencing?
    • What aggravates and eases these symptoms?
    • How long have you been having these symptoms?
    • How did your symptoms start?
    • Have you ever had physical therapy or other treatments before? If so, what was the result?
  3. You will next undergo a physical exam, where your physical therapist will look at your strength, mobility and flexibility to help determine the possible origins of your condition.
  4. Lastly, your physical therapist will assess your condition and explain how they will treat it. You will collaborate on goals that you will achieve during your course of therapy. We welcome questions at this point and our physical therapists are happy to provide you with details you may want to know.
  5. Treatment normally begins on the same day as your initial evaluation.
  6. If appropriate, a tailored home exercise program will be given. It is essential to your quick recovery to adhere to your home exercise program as we progress.
  7. The last step is to check out and schedule a follow-up appointment. All co-pays are due when services are rendered.

Commonly asked questions:

Q: How long will each treatment last?
A: Most sessions are approximately 60 minutes
Q: How many visits will I need?
A: This depends on your symptoms and the program that you are given. On your first visit your physical therapist will give you an idea of the duration of your treatment. Treatment courses range from 1-2 visits to a few months for more serious conditions.
Q: Who pays for treatment?
A: In most cases, health insurance will cover the treatment. However, you may be responsible for a co-pay or deductable. All Cross Keys services are pre-approved prior to your first visit. You will be made aware of your financial obligation before your first visit.
Q: Is physical therapy painful?
A: Not necessarily. Our goal is to reduce or completely eliminate your pain. Physical therapy treatments often include hands-on techniques and specific movements designed to make you feel better. It is important that you inform your physical therapist if you do feel pain during treatment as this will guide your therapist to adjust your program appropriately.
Q: What happens if my symptoms return?
A: During the healing process, symptoms sometimes reoccur. If you experience this give us a call. We may suggest you come back to see us, return to your doctor, or simply modify your daily activities or exercise routine.
Q: Do you talk to my doctor?
A: Our physical therapists send regular written reports to your physician. Depending on your progress, your physical therapist may speak directly with your physician.
